Organic Farm, Cascina Borgofrancone – Natural Reserve Pian di Spagna, upper Lake Como
Cascina Borgofrancone, within the Natural Reserve Pian di Spagna and Novate Mezzola, is a 19th century farmhouse, surrounded by the green countryside. The organic farm is blessed by a particularly mild weather that makes for an all-year-round opening and allows the guests to enjoy the 3 hectares garden from spring to sutumn. It has 45 beds shared in different rooms and apartments and it offers many amenities such as Wellness Centre, tennis court and the restaurant ‘Il Ristorante del Borgo’.
Cascina Borgofrancone operates towards eco- sustainability with particular focus on the concepts of energy efficiency, respect for the environment, and the use of renewable energy sources. It is equipped with wooden-boilers, PV system on the roofs, owns and cultivates BIO certified lands and keeps laying hens. The property covers an area of 27 hectares reaching the far tip of the Lake Como. It is very close to the main lakeside towns of Colico, Bellano, Varenna, Bellagio and to the Valtellina and Valchiavenna ski areas. Within the Natural Reserve people enjoy our surroundings in order to practice sport like trekking, jogging, water sports and outdoor activities such as bird watching and long walks along the final stretch of the river Adda, that flows right into Lake Como.
Free-range laying hens
Our hens are fed with certified organic feed with full regard for them and their welfare. They are completely free, have a wooden poultry surrounded by a small private garden. Most of eggs are used in our restaurant, Il Ristorante del Borgo, to make fresh pasta and pastries for breakfast.
Blueberry Organic Plants
Certified organic blueberry plant, 1.235 acres of cultivated land.
Starting ingredient for different preparations and recipes are also sold directly to consumers on Saturday and Sunday.
